JOURNEY TO YOUR HEART – a special night at the Church of St. Thérèse, Mount Merrion!

It was a privilege to organise and lead a night of music - Songs of Hope for the Journey - at Mount Merrion on June 15th for a very worthy cause. The inspiration behind the evening was Fr. Tony Coote (Parish Priest), and recently diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.  We were there support the Irish Motor Neorone Association (IMNDA), who state on their website ‘is the only organisation of its kind to support people with this disease, their families, friends and their carers.’ In light of this reality, and to raise money for research, the WALK WHILE YOU CAN (WWYC) project, has been initiated by Tony. He will lead a walk and in the company of many, endeavouring to travel from Letterkenny to Cork throughout July. On the evening in question, we appreciated that Fr. Tony welcomed all of us who were involved in the night of music. We were humbled by his graciousness, courage, selflessness and most of all his faith in the face of what he called ‘debilitating illness.’

Many helped to make this a special night. A big thanks to the St. John of God Choir and Holy Faith Past Pupils Choir, along with soloists Patricia Bourke, Katie O’Flaherty, Jim Hickey, Marie McCabe and Helen Staines. Our music was enhanced very much by our musicians - Deirdre Reece and Bro. Terence Flynn OH (guitars), and our guest musicians Ciaran Coll (keyboard), Mary O’Donnell (Harp), and Pat Fitzpatrick (Flute). As a group we were especially grateful to the parish team for their welcome and wonderful hospitality. And a big thank you to all who attended the evening and for their tremendous generosity.

We continue to walk in spirit with Fr. Tony and all those he represents on his journey.
