Sister Marie Dunne, a native of Dublin, is a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Faith. A graduate from Saint Patrick’s Training College, Drumcondra, Dublin, Marie specialised in Academic Music as part of her B.Ed Degree. She spent a number of years in Primary Education, which included some years as School Principal. In 2006, she completed an MA in Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care, and then spent four years as Chaplain to the students in Mater Dei Institute of Education, Drumcondra. She also studied in the area of Liturgical Music and composition.
Over the years, Marie has had wide musical experience, mainly in the area of Church music. She has worked with parish choirs, both as musical director and/or organist.
She worked with the Catholic Youth Council (C.Y.C.) in the Dublin Diocese from 1986-1991. During her time there she worked on the Faith Development Team and had special responsibility for the Folk Groups in the Diocese. This included leading the Saint Kevin’s Young Adult Music Group (Pro –Cathedral) each Saturday evening.
Marie has been the director of the Saint John of God Provincial Choir (Choir for the Irish Province of the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God) for nearly 30 years, while also working with other choirs. During those years she has been involved in the composition of music, particularly of religious/liturgical music. She has composed music for her own Congregation, for the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God and for a number of other Religious Congregations for different occasions. Much of Marie’s music has been sung on the RTE for the Sunday Mass.
From 2002 – 2006 Marie worked as Chaplain to the students at Mater Dei Institute of Education, Drumcondra, Dublin. This provided many opportunities for her to share her liturgical expertise with the students there.
Central to Marie’s music ministry are prayer, spirituality, and faith development. She has been a resource in this area to Chaplains, Parish Groups and Religious Groups . This has included supporting School and College Chaplains here in Ireland, and Chaplains of Third Level Colleges in Britain.More Information

On June 7th 2014, an evening of music was presented by Sr. Marie Dunne, at St. Oliver Plunkett’s parish church, Rivermount, Finglas, Dublin. The evening was hosted by the Augustinian parish community, led by Fr. Seamus Ahearn and Fr. Paddy O’Reilly The purpose of the night was to raise funds for the Holy Faith mission in Riwoto, South Sudan. All of the music performed on the night was composed by Marie, and featured the St. John of God Choir. Soloists on the night included Linda Ledwidge, Patricia Bourke D’Souza, Louise Florence and Alan Hynes.
